Transparency Grades

"Clear silicone" is not one single thing. We offer three transparency levels, and each one fits a different job:

Grade

Light Transmission

What You See Through It

How It Is Made

Best Uses

Translucent

about 40 – 75%

Light passes through, but shapes are blurred and soft

Peroxide or platinum cured

Light diffusion, privacy covers, decorative seals, general gaskets where full clarity is not needed

High Transparent

about 90% (2 mm)

Shapes, fluid flow, and alignment are clearly visible

Platinum cured, high-purity compound

Sight glasses, inspection windows, medical and food equipment gaskets

Optical Grade

91 – 95%, haze under 2%

Almost glass-clear — the sharpest image silicone can give

Platinum cured LSR, precision molded

LED lenses, optical windows, sensor covers, light guides

Two things worth knowing before you choose:
  • Thickness changes everything. Light transmission drops as the gasket gets thicker. A grade that reads 90% at 2 mm may pass much less light at 10 mm. Tell us your gasket thickness, and we will tell you what clarity to expect.
  • Surface matters too. A mirror-polished mold gives the clearest surface; a matte or textured finish diffuses light on purpose — useful for soft, glare-free lighting.
Our advice

Do not pay for optical grade when you only need to see "is fluid moving." Translucent or high transparent will do that job for much less money. Save optical grade for lenses, displays, and sensor windows where image quality is the point.

Clear vs Colored Silicone

Clear silicone is not just silicone without color — making it well demands a different process from start to finish:

Factor

Clear Silicone

Colored Silicone

Curing System

Platinum cured — the only way to get true clarity (peroxide-cured material stays cloudy)

Usually peroxide cured; platinum available

Production Environment

Strict contamination control — every tiny speck or fiber is visible, so mixing and molding areas must be extra clean

Standard clean production — the pigment hides minor specks

Appearance Control

Any defect shows instantly: bubbles, dust, flow marks

Forgiving — color masks small visual defects

Hardness Range

Typically 30 – 80 Shore A (clarity comes from high-purity formulas, so extreme hardness options are limited)

Full range, 10 – 90 Shore A

UV & Yellowing Stability

Platinum-cured clear grades are non-yellowing and UV-stable — they stay clear for years

Yellowing is invisible behind the pigment

Material Purity

Highest — no pigment, no filler hiding anything, very low extractables

Depends on grade and pigment

Cost

Higher (purer compound + stricter process control)

Lower

The simple truth

Clear silicone costs more because there is nowhere to hide. Every flaw in the material and every shortcut in the process shows up in the finished gasket. That is also why buyers trust a factory that can deliver truly clear silicone — it proves the whole production line is under control.

If you need clarity for a food, medical, or optical job, we recommend our platinum-cured high transparent grades. If you just need a soft, milky look for light diffusion, translucent gives you the effect at a lower price.

Best Applications for Clear Gaskets

A clear gasket does two jobs at once: it seals, and it lets you see. That combination makes it the first choice anywhere operators need to inspect what is happening behind the seal:

Medical devices

fluid path seals, pump housings, and diagnostic cartridges where technicians must visually confirm flow, alignment, or liquid presence. USP Class VI clear compounds are available.

Laboratory instruments

analyzer seals, sample chamber gaskets, and microfluidic devices where the whole point is to observe the process.

Optical devices

lens seals, sensor windows, and lighting fixtures that need high light transmission with a flexible,
weatherproof seal.

Food and beverage equipment

sight glass seals, filler and dispenser gaskets, and inspection windows where operators watch the product pass. FDA compliant, odorless, and tasteless.

Electronics

display gaskets, LED lighting seals, and indicator window gaskets where light must pass through the seal without distortion.

Pharmaceutical and bioprocess lines

sanitary gaskets for high-purity water and process equipment, where a clear, pigment-free seal signals cleanliness and lets operators spot contamination instantly.

A simple test: if your maintenance team ever needs to look through the seal — to check fluid, alignment, cleanliness, or light — a clear gasket is the right gasket.

What Is Transparent / Clear Silicone?

Transparent silicone is the purest-looking member of the silicone family — a silicone rubber with no pigment and almost no filler, so light passes straight through it. Standard silicone is milky or cloudy because of the fillers inside; clear silicone replaces that recipe with high-purity polymers and a platinum curing system that leaves no residue to scatter the light. The result ranges from translucent (light passes, shapes are visible) to glass-clear (over 90% light transmission, almost like looking through water), depending on the grade you choose. And underneath the clarity, it is still real silicone — flexible, temperature-resistant, and built to seal for years.

Key Properties of Transparent / Clear Silicone
  • See-Through Sealing — Lets operators inspect fluid flow, gasket alignment, and cleanliness without opening the equipment.
  • Platinum-Cured Purity — No peroxide by-products, no plasticizers, no pigments — extremely low extractables for sensitive processes.
  • Non-Yellowing — High-purity platinum-cured formulas stay clear under UV, heat, and ozone. The gasket you install this year looks the same next year.
  • Full Silicone Performance — Works from -60°C to +230°C, stays flexible, and resists weather, aging, and repeated sterilization.
  • Naturally Hygienic — A smooth, non-stick surface with nowhere for residue to hide; any contamination is visible at a glance.
  • Food and Medical Ready — Available in FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 compliant and USP Class VI certified compounds.
  • Customizable Clarity — From soft translucent to high-clarity optical grades, in any thickness, hardness, and shape you need.
