Why so many names?
ZSR's Recommendation:

If your O-ring does not touch food, medicine, or human skin, Industrial Grade is the smart choice. It gives you the same heat resistance and flexibility as higher grades, but at a lower price.

What "Industrial Grade" Means at ZSR

At ZSR, we use all three terms interchangeably. When you order HCR O-rings, HTV O-rings, or Solid Silicone O-rings from us, you receive the same high-quality material made from high-molecular-weight polysiloxane with excellent heat resistance and flexibility., "Industrial Grade" does not mean low quality. It means the right quality for industrial jobs. Here is what you get with every Industrial Grade silicone O-ring from ZSR:

Standard Material, Proven Performance

We use the same base silicone polymers for Industrial Grade as we do for higher grades. The difference is in the testing and documentation, not in the basic rubber quality. Industrial Grade O-rings still handle -60°C to +230°C and resist ozone, UV, and moisture.Z

Strict Quality Control

Every batch of Industrial Grade O-rings at ZSR goes through our standard inspection process:

Size check

AMeasured against ISO 3601-3 Grade N or Grade S tolerances

Visual inspection

Checked for bubbles, cracks, foreign particles, and surface defects

Hardness test

Shore A durometer check to confirm the ordered grade

Batch record

Every order is linked to a production batch for consistency tracking

No Unnecessary Costs

We do not run FDA migration tests or biocompatibility studies on Industrial Grade material. This keeps the cost down for applications that do not need those certifications. You pay only for the quality level your job actually requires.

Available Options

Even at Industrial Grade, ZSR offers flexibility:

Hardness

20 to 80 Shore A

Colors

Black, white, red, blue, and custom colors

Sizes

AS568, ISO 3601, JIS B 2401, or fully custom

Curing

Peroxide (standard) or platinum (if you need better odor control)

When to Upgrade

If your project later needs food contact or medical approval, ZSR can switch the same O-ring design to Food Grade or Medical Grade material using the same molds. This makes Industrial Grade a good starting point for product development and testing.

Common Applications

ZSR's Industrial Grade silicone O-rings are used across many industries where the seal does not need food or medical certification.

Industry

Application

Why Industrial Grade Works

Automotive

Engine cover seals, lighting gaskets, sensor housings, battery packs

Handles engine heat and outdoor weather. No food contact needed.

Electronics

Enclosure seals, cable gland seals, LED lighting gaskets

Insulates electricity and keeps dust and water out.

Industrial Machinery

Pump seals, valve gaskets, compressor seals, hydraulic covers

Resists heat and ozone in factory environments.

Home Appliances

Washing machine seals, dishwasher gaskets, air conditioner parts

Long life in hot, wet conditions. Cost-effective for high-volume production.

Plumbing & HVAC

Pipe flange seals, faucet gaskets, heating system O-rings

Flexible at low temperatures. Resists water and steam.

Aerospace (Non-Critical)

Interior panel seals, duct gaskets, non-fuel system covers

Wide temperature range fits cabin and equipment bay conditions.

Renewable Energy

Solar panel junction box seals, wind turbine sensor gaskets

UV and weather resistant for outdoor exposure.

What Is Industrial Grade Silicone?

Industrial Grade silicone is standard silicone rubber made for general-purpose sealing. It is not certified for food contact, and it is not tested for medical use. But for machinery, electronics, vehicles, and equipment, it delivers everything you need at the best price.

What It Is Made Of

Industrial Grade silicone uses the same polysiloxane polymer as all silicone rubber. At ZSR, we mix the raw silicone with reinforcing fillers (like fumed silica) to add strength, plus pigments for color and a curing agent. The compound is then molded into O-rings using compression or injection molding.

How It Differs from Higher Grades

The material itself is similar. The main differences are:

  • Testing: Industrial Grade does not go through FDA migration testing or USP biocompatibility testing.
  • Documentation: We provide a standard Certificate of Analysis (COA), not a compliance declaration for food or medical standards.
  • Production: Made in our standard production area, not in a dedicated food or medical cleanroom.
  • Cost: Lower because we skip the extra testing, certification, and environmental controls.
Key Properties
  • Temperature: -60°C to +230°C continuous use. Short-term peaks to +250°C.
  • Hardness: 20 to 80 Shore A. Most common is 50 to 70 Shore A.
  • Colors: Any standard color. Black and red are most common for Industrial Grade.
  • Elasticity: Excellent. Compression set recovery is good for long-term static seals.
  • Chemical Resistance: Resists water, steam, ozone, UV, and mild chemicals. Not suitable for fuels, oils, or strong acids without special formulation.
Why Choose Industrial Grade?

Choose Industrial Grade when:

  • Your seal does not touch food, drinks, or human skin
  • You need reliable heat and weather resistance
  • You want the lowest cost for a standard silicone O-ring
  • Your application is mechanical, electrical, or structural
